The popularity of people against the Vietnam war was growing as more and more troops were getting sent overseas. In hope to stop sending more troops, many people spoke up including Martin Luther King Jr. Also five thousand scientists petitioned to stop the bombing. On February 15th the Women's Strike for Peace put together a strike outside the Pentagon demanding to see "the generals who send our sons to die" and about 2,500 women actually stormed the pentagon. As a result Senator Robert F. Kennedy proposed that the bombing of Vietnam be stopped that way they could negotiate whether or not they could send some troops home. Another way to rebel in the 60s was for students and other young people to burn their draft cards and give up on society. Hippies called this fad flower power because most of them got their "power" from using the cannabis flower (marijuana). The hippies hit their peak in 1967 when they started wearing kaftans, afghan coats, body paint and flowers in their hair. This was important because people started standing up for themselves and got more independent.
